Practical Intensive Care Medicine
(Problem Solving in the ICU)

Practical Intensive Care Medicine (Problem Solving in the ICU) is a guide intended for junior doctors who are working (or just about to start work) in Intensive Care.

The style is informal and scenario based. The questions and dilemmas are exactly the sort of things which you will be asked by colleagues and nurses as soon as you set foot in the Intensive care unit.

This book was previously published by Butterworth (before they were taken over by Elsevier). There has been some revision for this new edition.

Reviews of the earlier edition:

' ... informative and will serve as a revision aid for candidates appearing for the ICU diploma examination and provide useful reading material for trainees entering their ICU term'
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, vol 29, April 2001

"This is an excellently concieved and well-written book ... I enjoyed reading the book from cover to cover and recommend it highly for intensive care staff wishing to improve their ability to confront tricky challenges encountered daily in the ICU'
European Journal of Anaesthesiology, June 2001

'... the format is more user friendly than the "Secrets..." series. I for one would love to have had the opportunity to read such a book before (and during) my first bewildering terms on the ICU.'
Anaesthesia Points West, April 2001.

'I would recommend this little book to all trainees coming to work in intensive care units for the first time.It will help them through many of the vexing problems they will be faced with in their first weeks - many that their seniors may have forgotten were vexing to them once.'
British Journal of Anaesthesia, March 2001.
